BJD Rallies Against Rising Assault Cases Amidst BJP's Criticism

The Biju Janata Dal (BJD), the opposition party in Odisha, has announced a two-phase protest from August 1 to 14 to address the increasing incidents of sexual assaults on women and girls in the state. This move comes amid criticism from the ruling BJP, which dismisses the BJD's concerns as politically motivated.

BJD representatives alleged that the current government has failed to provide a safe environment, citing incidents like a student's tragic self-immolation at Fakir Mohan College. The party plans to involve students in a campaign, compelling them to write to Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and law enforcement to demand action and improved safety on campuses.

Meanwhile, the BJP, led by Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan, countered claims by highlighting their achievements in reducing crime against women over the past 13 months. The BJP emphasized swift arrests and the conviction of offenders, while critiquing BJD and Congress for using women's safety as a political tool.
