Allegations of vote manipulation have erupted in Madhya Pradesh, with Congress leader Umang Singhar accusing the ruling BJP of benefitting from electoral misconduct. During a press briefing, Singhar, the Leader of Opposition, presented data suggesting that the number of voters increased significantly in select constituencies where Congress faced narrow defeats.
Singhar's claims are bolstered by data indicating an unexpected rise of 16.05 lakh new voters in a mere two-month period leading up to the 2023 elections, raising suspicions of irregularities. He also noted long-standing issues with duplicate entries in the electoral roll, which have not been adequately addressed by the state election authority.
As the controversy unfolds, Singhar has urged the Election Commission to hold changes to the voter list until the election process is complete and to make detailed voter data accessible in a machine-readable format for independent analysis. Amidst these accusations, the BJP secured 163 of the 230 assembly seats, while Congress won 66.
