The Election Commission (EC) announced on Friday the removal of 474 registered unrecognised political parties from its official list for failing to comply with norms, including not participating in elections for the last six years.
This recent action follows the EC's earlier decision, made on August 9, to delist 334 registered unrecognised political parties (RUPPs) in the first phase of a comprehensive exercise.
In total, 808 RUPPs have been de-listed over a two-month period, reducing their numbers from 2,520 to 2,046. Currently, there are six nationally recognised parties and 67 state parties.
