The Election Commission of India has officially started the process for the by-election in Jubilee Hills with the issuance of a gazette notification. Nominations for the assembly by-poll are open until October 21, with scrutiny scheduled for October 22, according to the official release.
The by-election is set for November 11, with results expected on November 14. The bypoll was called after the death of BRS MLA Maganti Gopinath. The ruling Congress has nominated V Naveen Yadav, while the BRS puts forward Maganti Sunitha, the widow of the late MLA. The BJP is yet to announce its candidate.
New measures by the Election Commission, like color photographs on EVMs, AI-based surveillance, and GPS monitoring of sensitive polling stations, aim to enhance transparency and prevent malpractice in the election.
