On Wednesday, a Congress MP sharply criticized the Narendra Modi administration, alleging that both the Prime Minister and his ministers are projecting a false sense of economic prosperity while avoiding the harsh realities faced by the nation's farmers. 'The government is crafting a narrative of economic strength while ignoring the plight of farmers who face declining crop prices,' stated Congress General Secretary Ramesh on the social media platform X.

Ramesh, a Rajya Sabha MP, highlighted that current market prices for key Kharif crops, including maize, soybean, moong, arhar, cotton, and bajra, are falling below the mandated Minimum Support Price (MSP). 'Farmers' groups are demanding that MSP be legally guaranteed, a stance that even the former Vice President supported,' Ramesh remarked. He provided comparative figures showing market prices trailing MSPs significantly, raising concerns about farmers' financial stability.

Meanwhile, Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan emphasized the benefits of reduced GST on agricultural machinery, claiming substantial savings for farmers. Speaking at the Indian Agricultural Research Institute, Chouhan defended the government's commitment to farmer welfare, citing Rs 3.9 lakh crore transferred to farmers under the PM-KISAN Samman Nidhi as evidence of sustained support.
