The opposition INDIA bloc announced on Thursday that RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav will be its chief ministerial candidate for the Bihar assembly elections. This decision follows extensive deliberations aimed at quelling internal disagreements and presenting a united front before voters.

Congress leader Ashok Gehlot, who has been negotiating with the bloc in Patna, revealed plans to appoint Vikassheel Insan Party chief Mukesh Sahni and other society leaders as deputy chief ministers. Sahni, previously critical of Tejashwi Yadav, wields influence among certain communities and has a history of political alliance shifts.

The decision to back Yadav also includes addressing criticisms from the BJP about his past governance stints. Yadav confronted allegations head-on, assuring voters he would not tolerate corruption and decrying opposition narratives of 'jungle raj' as propaganda. The political stakes are high as the INDIA bloc aims to counter the NDA's growing influence in Bihar.
