In a groundbreaking move, Punjab's government is set to launch Aam Aadmi Clinics inside central jails as part of a pilot project. This initiative, announced by Health and Family Welfare Minister Balbir Singh, aims to ensure comprehensive health care and mental well-being for inmates, marking a significant step towards building a healthier Punjab.

The clinics will include services from psychologists and psychiatrists, aligning with the state's vision of jails as 'Sudhar Ghars' or reform homes. Minister Singh emphasized the government's belief in reformative justice, where the focus is on rehabilitating individuals. The introduction of mental health support for inmates highlights a progressive approach to prison reform.

Since their launch, the Aam Aadmi clinics across Punjab have treated over 4.20 crore patients, showcasing their impact on public health. Complementing this, Singh also announced a cashless health insurance scheme, with coverage up to Rs 10 lakh, set to launch on October 2. The scheme, which requires only an Aadhaar and voter ID card, promises to relieve citizens from health-related financial burdens.
