Political Turmoil in Bengal: NRC Fear Spurs Tragedy

TMC's Abhishek Banerjee visited the family of Pradeep Kar, who allegedly died by suicide due to anxiety over NRC. Banerjee accused the BJP and Election Commission of fear-mongering, demanding accountability from Amit Shah and Gyanesh Kumar. TMC's national general secretary, Abhishek Banerjee, paid a visit to the grieving family of Pradeep Kar in Panihati, West Bengal. Kar had allegedly taken his life, leaving a note citing anxiety over the National Register of Citizens (NRC) as his reason.

Accompanied by prominent TMC members, Banerjee expressed his condolences and launched a stinging critique of the BJP and the Election Commission. He directly blamed Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar for Kar's death.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also accused the BJP of weaponizing the NRC to intimidate voters. The BJP, however, insisted on letting investigative agencies find the truth behind the death, amid accusations that the SIR process aims to disenfranchise genuine voters.
