The CPI(M) is poised to embark on a 1,000-km 'Bangla Bachao Yatra' on November 29, aiming to expose perceived injustices under the TMC-led West Bengal government. This move, set against a backdrop of declining political influence, seeks to counter what the party alleges are the BJP-led Centre's anti-people policies deepening distress in Bengal.
The former political powerhouse is grappling with electoral challenges and hopes this initiative will reinvigorate its cadre and reconnect with the electorate ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections. The yatra will traverse 11 districts, with sub-yatras joining the main campaign, highlighting issues from healthcare and education to farmer distress and worker rights.
CPI(M) state secretary Mohammed Salim emphasized the need for this corrective movement, targeting both the TMC's governance style and the BJP's economic strategies. Despite historic defeats, the CPI(M) aims to position itself as a crucial alternative in Bengal's evolving political landscape.
