Chhattisgarh has reported a shocking number of wildlife fatalities in the last 26 months, with 38 elephants and nine tigers among the casualties. These deaths were attributed to various causes such as electrocution, poaching, and infighting, according to Forest Minister Kedar Kashyap.
In addition to these losses, 562 other wild animals, including leopards, bears, and cheetals, also succumbed due to similar reasons. The figures were disclosed by Kashyap in response to a question by opposition MLA Sheshraj Harbansh during a session at the Legislative Assembly.
The minister's detailed report revealed specific cases, like the death of a young tiger due to organ failure at a facility in Gujarat. The report also highlighted that 14 elephant deaths were caused by electrocution, and 145 wild animal deaths occurred at local safari parks due to various ailments and conditions.
