Land Allotments in Assam: BJP and Others Gain Advantage

Since 2016, the BJP has received government land at 35 locations in Assam for office setups, as disclosed by Revenue Minister Keshab Mahanta. Other political organizations and entities were also granted lands, with Dhubri district seeing the highest number of multiple allocations, reflecting a trend of strategic land distribution.

The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been significantly favored in the allocation of government land across Assam, a move observed since 2016. According to Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Keshab Mahanta, the BJP secured land at 35 different sites to establish its offices in the state.

In addition to the BJP, 13 other organizations have also been beneficiaries of land allotments during this period, underscoring a broader distribution practice. These groups include prominent political entities such as the BJP ally Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and the Congress. The Dibrugarh District Journalist Association also received allocations.

Within this broad distribution, Dhubri district emerged with the highest number of plot allocations, reinforcing the strategic importance of land allocation in political and organizational growth. The pattern of distribution highlights a concerted effort in land management between May 2016 and the present.
