A heated debate erupted in the Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha as the ruling Congress and opposition parties exchanged accusations over the Himcare Scheme, a healthcare initiative introduced by the former BJP government. The scheme, intended to provide free cashless treatment coverage, is now at the center of a major political storm.
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu intervened during the assembly's question hour, addressing inquiries from MLAs Vinod Kumar and Trilok Jamwal. He disclosed that the Himcare Scheme is under investigation, labeling it a significant scam. The investigation is being conducted by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) to uncover alleged financial irregularities.
Under the Himcare Scheme, the government has already paid Rs 211 crore to private hospitals, with Rs 110 crore still pending. Adjustments to funding allocations between Himcare and the Ayushman Bharat Yojana are being considered, to optimize resources.
