Trump Calls for Clemens' Induction into Baseball Hall of Fame
Former U.S. President Donald Trump advocates for former MLB pitcher Roger Clemens to be inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame, dismissing accusations of performance-enhancing drugs as 'erroneous allegations.' Clemens was previously acquitted of lying to Congress about drug use during a controversial investigation.
In a recent statement, former U.S. President Donald Trump has publicly endorsed former Major League Baseball pitcher Roger Clemens for induction into the National Baseball Hall of Fame. Clemens, a seven-time Cy Young Award winner, has been dogged by accusations of performance-enhancing drug use, which Trump called 'erroneous allegations.'
The post emerged just before the Hall of Fame was set to announce new inductees via the Contemporary Baseball Era Players Committee. This committee reviews players who are no longer eligible for election by the Baseball Writers' Association of America. Clemens remains controversial but was acquitted in 2012 of charges he lied about drug use.
Trump's support for Clemens follows his advocacy for Pete Rose, highlighting his influence on revisiting controversial sports figures. Other players like Barry Bonds, also named in the Mitchell Report, share a similar plight. Clemens' last appearance on the BBWAA ballot saw him fall short of the necessary votes for induction.
