U.S. lawmaker John Moolenaar is scrutinizing the connections between mining group Ivanhoe Atlantic and the Chinese Communist Party. Moolenaar, who chairs a U.S. House bipartisan committee on China, addressed these concerns in a letter to State Department Secretary Marco Rubio.

The Michigan Republican pointed out the involvement of Chinese state-owned entities in Ivanhoe Atlantic, a company significantly backed by I-Pulse Inc., a U.S. firm founded by Robert Friedland. This connection is underscored by the significant shares held by Chinese companies CITIC Group and Zijin Mining in Ivanhoe Mines.

Moolenaar emphasized the risks these associations pose to U.S. national security. He expressed commitment to working with the State Department to ensure that U.S. commercial diplomacy remains untainted by the influences of the Chinese Communist Party.
