Veteran Congress leader Shamanuru Shivashankarappa passed away on Sunday at a private hospital, succumbing to age-related ailments, as confirmed by official sources.

At 95, he served as the representative for the Davanagere South Assembly constituency. Shivashankarappa's influence extended beyond politics; he was a noted educationist, industrialist, and former minister who held the position of treasurer for the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee for several decades.

Shivashankarappa leaves behind a family deeply embedded in public service, including his son S S Mallikarjun, Karnataka's Minister for Mines and Geology and Horticulture, and daughter-in-law Prabha Mallikarjun, an MP.
