In a recent development in Kerala, six activists from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) were apprehended for the alleged assault of a local Left Democratic Front (LDF) leader. The incident, which occurred around 9:15 p.m. on Sunday, has heightened political tensions in the coastal district.
According to police reports, the altercation unfolded when CPI(M) leader Ramjith, accompanied by his friend Renith, visited Neelamperoor panchayat. The area, a site of recent BJP victory in local polls, became the scene of violence as the activists allegedly confronted and assaulted Ramjith.
Law enforcement officials have detailed that charges include unlawful assembly, rioting, and attempted murder. The victim, Ramjith, is currently being treated at Kottayam Medical College following the attack, which has raised concerns regarding political violence in the region.
