Congress leader Rahul Gandhi criticized a new bill targeting rural employment, labeling it an insult to Mahatma Gandhi's principles. He alleged that the Narendra Modi government aims to dismantle secure livelihoods for the rural poor, following widespread unemployment woes among India's youth.
Opposition members protested the introduction of the VB-G RAM G Bill, which seeks to replace MGNREGA, in the Parliament House complex. They accused the NDA government of dishonoring Mahatma Gandhi by removing his name from the scheme.
Despite strong objections, Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan introduced the bill in the Lok Sabha, promising employment guarantees and improved rural infrastructure. However, critics, including Gandhi, argue it could centralize power and financial burden on states, undermining employment security.
