The Nagpur Municipal Corporation elections, scheduled for January 15, have surpassed the typical 50% reservation cap, reaching 54%, according to civic chief Abhijeet Chaudhari. Despite this, no directives have been received from the State Election Commission.
Approximately 24 lakh residents in Nagpur will vote to elect 151 representatives across 38 wards. Chaudhari outlined that of these voters, there are 12,26,690 male and 12,56,166 female voters. Latur, another city preparing for elections, sees political dynamics shifting with former mayors leaving established parties for new alliances.
Elections across 29 municipal corporations in Maharashtra, including Nagpur, represent significant political stakes, with results set to be announced on January 16.
