Trump's White House Ballroom Controversy
President Trump plans to build a White House ballroom on the former East Wing site. A federal judge rejected preservationists' bid against it, citing no immediate 'irreparable harm'. However, the government must be ready to reverse any specific design-related underground work if necessary.
President Donald Trump has received approval from a federal judge to proceed with the construction of a massive White House ballroom on the previously demolished East Wing site, despite opposition.
The judge, U.S. District Judge Richard Leon, denied an emergency request from the National Trust for a temporary restraining order against the project. The Trust argued the construction constitutes an abuse of power.
While the judge determined there was no evidence of 'irreparable harm' at this early stage of the lawsuit, he mandated that the government must be ready to reverse any below-ground construction that solidifies a particular design.
