BJP Dominates Maharashtra Municipal Elections
The Bharatiya Janata Party has emerged as the largest party in Maharashtra's municipal elections, winning 1,372 of the 2,784 declared seats. Shiv Sena and Congress followed, with votes still pending for 85 seats. Elections resumed in 29 municipalities after delays spanning from 2020 to 2023.

The Maharashtra State Election Commission announced results for 2,784 out of 2,869 municipal corporation seats late Friday. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) claimed victory as the leading party, securing 1,372 seats across 29 municipalities.
Remainder results for 85 seats are expected later. In a breakdown, BJP garnered 1,372, Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena took 394, Congress claimed 315, Ajit Pawar's NCP won 158, while Uddhav Thackeray's Shiv Sena (UBT) fetched 149 seats. Specific to Mumbai, BJP led with 85 seats out of 204 wards.
Resuming this January 15 after a prolonged delay, elections spanned across major municipal corporations including Mumbai and Pimpri-Chinchwad, with nine key areas in the bustling Mumbai Metropolitan Region, India's urban core.
