Assam MP Pradyut Bordoloi has dealt a significant blow to the opposition Congress by resigning just weeks ahead of the state's assembly elections. His resignation letter was directed to AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge, confirming his departure from the party.
Bordoloi, who has served as a state cabinet minister and is a two-time MP from the Nagaon constituency, took this step despite having his son contest as a Congress candidate from Margherita in the state polls set for April 9.
Sources revealed that Congress state media department chairman Bedabrata Bora confirmed the resignation, with Gaurav Gogoi and AICC Assam in-charge Jitendra Singh engaging in discussions with Bordoloi in Delhi to troubleshoot the issue.
