The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has raised alarms over the security of their incarcerated leader, Bikram Singh Majithia. On Friday, the party approached Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria, alleging that the state government had failed to take necessary measures despite intelligence warnings indicating a threat to Majithia's life.
SAD leaders expressed skepticism over the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government's ability to protect Majithia, who faces life threats from the terror outfit Babbar Khalsa International. They highlighted violations of Majithia's fundamental rights and cited examples of undue surveillance, which they claim invade privacy and religious beliefs.
Furthermore, the SAD delegation accused the government of curbing press freedom, citing instances of raids on the Punjab Kesari Group. The delegation appealed to the governor to address these issues, emphasizing the need for democracy to prevail in the region.
