The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has emerged victorious in the 2026 civic elections, capturing an impressive 1,425 out of 2,869 seats across 29 municipal corporations in Maharashtra. Among the highlights was the BJP's victory over the Thackeray-led Uddhav faction in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), ending their 30-year reign.
In the crucial BMC elections, the BJP, alongside ally Shiv Sena, secured 118 seats in the 227-member body. Meanwhile, rivals Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) and Maharastra Navnirman Sena (MNS) garnered 65 and six seats respectively, with Congress and Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi obtaining 24. The AIMIM, NCP, Samajwadi Party, and Shiv Sena's splinter group accounted for the remaining.
The BJP further displayed its electoral prowess in Pune with 119 seats, overshadowing Ajit Pawar's NCP, and in Nagpur where it acquired 102. Victories also echoed across Nashik, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, and multiple other corporates, underscoring a potent display of the saffron wave in these civic bodies.
