Phool Singh Baraiya, an MLA from Madhya Pradesh's Congress party, has stirred significant controversy with his recent comments that link beauty to rape and suggest that certain religious texts encourage crimes against women from specific castes. His statements, made during an interview, have provoked a strong backlash from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and gone viral on social media.

Baraiya, representing the Bhander constituency, claimed that the largest number of rapes in India target women from Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Classes. He further asserted that instructions for such actions come from religious scriptures, though he was unable to substantiate these claims when pressed by reporters.

The remarks have been condemned by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who accused Baraiya of spreading social division just as Congress leader Rahul Gandhi visited Indore. Calls for Baraiya's expulsion have intensified with BJP's Madhya Pradesh media in-charge, Ashish Usha Agrawal, demanding action from Congress leaders to address the allegations of a criminal mindset and clarify their stance on women's rights.
