Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal announced on Monday that an FIR has been filed concerning a forged letter circulating on social media, which falsely claims to be from him and suggests a 'course correction' ahead of the Assam assembly elections.
The letter, appearing on what looks like Sonowal's official letterhead and bearing his alleged signature, is deemed entirely fraudulent by the former Assam Chief Minister. It is addressed to the BJP's national president and discusses the 'ground situation' in Assam, advocating for corrections before the polls expected in March-April.
Sonowal highlighted this issue in an X post, stating that the letter represents a 'serious criminal offence' involving forgery and impersonation, intended to spread misinformation and discredit his office. An FIR has been lodged, urging law enforcement to prioritize the investigation and take stringent action against those involved. The public and media have been advised to await authentic information from verified sources only.
