In Thane, Maharashtra, a political showdown is brewing between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Shiv Sena. The standoff comes on the heels of a recent electoral triumph, where the BJP demonstrated a remarkable strike rate in civic polls, winning 28 out of the 131 seats contested.
The Shiv Sena, led by Deputy CM Eknath Shinde, secured 75 wards in the Thane Municipal Corporation. However, amid ongoing negotiations, BJP leaders aspire for a more substantial share of governance, despite the existing alliance with Shiv Sena, which finished behind them in the local elections.
BJP's Thane in-charge, Niranjan Davkhare, highlighted the party's aspirations to secure vital municipal roles, underscoring the necessity of holding key positions to implement developmental agendas. While discussions continue, all decisions remain subject to the discretion of senior BJP figures Devendra Fadnavis and Ravindra Chavan.
