The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) led a protest march in Patna on Wednesday, voicing concerns over what they allege is a rise in crimes against women in Bihar. Demands were made for the resignation of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, who is also responsible for the home ministry.
The protest followed the deaths of two female students in Patna—one an 18-year-old NEET aspirant, and the other a schoolgirl. Both were found dead in separate hostels in the city. The RJD women's wing carried posters and shouted slogans along their route from the party office to Income Tax Crossing.
The Bihar State Women Commission (BSWC) has addressed these incidents, requesting detailed information from the Patna District Magistrate regarding the rules and guidelines for girls' hostel registrations in the capital. This comes amidst broader critiques claiming that the state's law and order under NDA governance has deteriorated significantly.
