British Prime Minister Keir Starmer believes that Peter Mandelson, ‌a former ambassador to the United States, should not be a member ⁠of the nation's upper house of the parliament but he cannot remove him, his spokesperson said on Monday.

"The ​prime minister believes that Peter Mandelson should ‍not be a member of the House of Lords or use the title, however the prime minister does not have ⁠the ‌power to ⁠remove it," the spokesperson told reporters when asked about new ‍reports of his ties with the late U.S. sex ​offender Jeffrey Epstein.

"He is calling on those ⁠in the Lords to work with the government to modernise disciplinary ⁠procedures in the House (of Lords) to allow for the easier removal of Lords who have ⁠brought the House into disrepute," the spokesperson said, adding ⁠Starmer had instructed ‌the cabinet secretary to review all available information regarding Mandelson's contacts with Epstein.
