In a scathing accusation on Tuesday, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Harish Khurana targeted the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), asserting that the party issued ration cards to deceased people during its tenure in Delhi.
Khurana's accusations came amid AAP's claims of irregularities linked to the cancellation of ration cards. Speaking at a press conference, the BJP MLA from Moti Nagar debunked AAP's allegations as intentional attempts to deceive the public. He claimed that Delhi's residents were aware of how AAP indiscriminately issued ration cards, citing official data noting over 9 lakh applications processed without adequate verification.
The BJP, led by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, uncovered significant discrepancies, including over 2 lakh suspect ration cards, during a review. In contrast, AAP alleged that the BJP is fostering a corruption-prone environment, deviating from the previous process of issuing ration cards. The controversy surrounding ration card issuance echoes amid urgent demands from Delhi's disadvantaged citizens.
