The Bahujan Vikas Aghadi (BVA), under the leadership of ex-MLA Hitendra Thakur, has reinforced its dominance in the Vasai-Virar area of Maharashtra's Palghar district. Ajiv Patil and Marshal Lopis were elected Mayor and Deputy Mayor respectively, during a noteworthy election on Tuesday.
Held at the Vasai Virar City Municipal Corporation headquarters, the elections witnessed a showdown between BVA and BJP. After Prafulla Jagannath Sane and Nishad Aruna Arun Chorghe withdrew their nominations, the race culminated in a face-off between BVA's Ajiv Patil and BJP's Darshana Tripathi-Kotak, with Patil emerging victorious by securing 71 votes against Tripathi-Kotak's 44.
The BVA's dominion was further affirmed as Marshal Lopis claimed victory in the Deputy Mayor race, defeating BJP's Manjrekar Narayan Suresh. The orderly election, monitored by Presiding Officer Dr. Indurani Jakhar, marked the conclusion of a period of administrative rule in the civic body.
