The Trinamool Congress has announced its support for a no-confidence motion against Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, party sources revealed on Saturday. As Parliament reconvenes for the second phase of the Budget session on Monday, opposition parties have listed a notice to seek Birla's removal for alleged partisan conduct.
The motion follows dissatisfaction among at least 118 opposition MPs, who accused the Speaker of not allowing crucial opposition figures like Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi to address the House during discussions on the Motion of Thanks to the President's address.
The discontent is further fueled by the suspension of eight opposition MPs in the first phase of the session. While Trinamool Congress members initially did not sign the notice, they have now pledged their support. The unfolding political drama signals a contentious session ahead.
