In a bold statement on Saturday, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee accused the BJP and Election Commission of manipulating voter rolls to disenfranchise Bengali-speaking citizens and divide the state. Addressing a rally in Kolkata, Banerjee criticized the alleged deletions in the post-SIR electoral rolls as a political conspiracy.
Banerjee, who staged a sit-in protest, claimed that millions of names had been removed, diminishing the voter base drastically ahead of upcoming assembly elections. She warned that efforts to undermine the voices of Bengal would not succeed, asserting that the TMC would fight relentlessly to protect voting rights.
Banerjee announced a major protest on International Women's Day, emphasizing women's rights and condemning rising LPG prices, while highlighting the TMC's commitment to representation and empowerment. The events come as tensions escalate with the Election Commission set to visit West Bengal soon.
