India is championing peace and the resumption of dialogue and diplomacy amid the escalating conflict in West Asia, according to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar's statement on Monday. He addressed the Rajya Sabha, emphasizing India's commitment to de-escalation, civilian safety, and the security of the Indian community in the involved regions.
Jaishankar assured parliament that India would continue collaborating with regional governments to safeguard its national interests, notably concerning energy security and trade objectives. The minister stressed that the welfare of Indian citizens remains a government priority amidst these geopolitical tensions.
The current conflict, stemmed from US-Israel actions against Iran and Tehran's counterattacks, has spiked energy prices. Jaishankar reaffirmed the government's dedication to ensuring energy security by considering availability, costs, and risks within energy markets, stressing that Indian consumer interests remain paramount.
