In a significant legal development, the Delhi High Court summoned Republic TV's Editor-in-Chief, Arnab Goswami, following a defamation suit filed by the Congress. The suit alleges that Goswami falsely claimed the Istanbul Congress Centre in Turkiye as a Congress party office.
Although the Congress sought an interim injunction against the broadcast content, Justice Mini Pushkarna declined this at the current stage, noting the broadcast aired in May 2025. The Congress lawyer insists the claim caused reputational damage, a contention the defense acknowledged as false.
The court instructed Goswami to respond to the interim relief plea within four weeks, scheduling a May 19 hearing. Additionally, an FIR in Bengaluru accuses Goswami and BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya of propagating misinformation amidst diplomatic strains between India and Turkey.
