Maharashtra's Assurance: No LPG Shortage Amid West Asia Conflict

The state ramps up domestic production and intensifies monitoring measures to prevent black marketing.

State minister Chhagan Bhujbal addressed the legislative assembly, asserting that Maharashtra faces no shortage of LPG and maintains satisfactory petrol and diesel stocks. This assurance comes amid geopolitical tensions in West Asia that have disrupted supply chains, particularly the import of LPG through the Strait of Hormuz.

India imports about 60% of its LPG via this critical route, now affected by US and Israeli strikes on Iran, leading to a ramp-up in domestic LPG production from 9,000 to 11,000 metric tonnes daily.

To tackle black marketing, Maharashtra has enforced inspections under the Essential Commodities Act, seizing 1,208 cylinders and arresting 18 individuals. Additionally, vigilance teams and control rooms are operational, while potential alternative fuel sources, like kerosene, are explored.
