EC Reshuffles Top Police Officers Ahead of West Bengal Elections
The Election Commission has ordered the transfer of five deputy inspectors general (DIGs) in West Bengal to ensure better poll preparedness ahead of the assembly elections. This move comes after the announcement of election dates, with the changes expected to be implemented immediately.

The Election Commission announced the transfer and posting of five IPS officers as deputy inspectors general (DIGs) in West Bengal on Wednesday. This decision is part of the commission's measures to enhance poll preparedness for the upcoming assembly elections.
According to an official communication, Rathod Amitkumar Bharat will take over as DIG, Raiganj Range, and Ajeet Singh Yadav is appointed as DIG, Murshidabad. Other transfers include Shrihari Pandey as DIG, Bardhaman, Kankar Prosad Barui as DIG, Presidency Range, and Anjali Singh as DIG, Jalpaiguri.
The commission ordered these changes to take immediate effect and requested a compliance report by March 19. Following the election date announcement on Sunday, the commission also transferred several senior officials, including the Chief Secretary and Home Secretary. The West Bengal assembly elections are scheduled in two phases on April 23 and 29, with votes counted on May 4.
