In a significant political development, Prateek Bordoloi, son of former Assam MP Pradyut Bordoloi, has opted not to contest the Margherita assembly seat for the Congress party in the forthcoming elections. His decision follows his father's departure from Congress to join the BJP.
Prateek communicated his decision to withdraw from the candidacy through a letter to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, stating that given his father's political shift, it would be inappropriate for him to continue as a Congress candidate. Despite stepping back from the race, Prateek assured party leaders of his continued dedication to Congress in other capacities.
Highlighting his enduring commitment to Congress values, Prateek expressed gratitude for the party's trust over the years and affirmed his drive to maintain discipline and clarity within the organization. The Assam assembly elections are set for April 9, with votes being counted on May 4.
