Democratic Party Challenges Trump's Mail-In Voting Order
The Democratic Party has filed a lawsuit challenging President Trump's executive order on mail-in voting, claiming it oversteps states' election authorities. The order mandates federal assistance in verifying voter eligibility. Trump's administration has not commented, while the President doubts the lawsuit's potential success.
The Democratic Party has taken legal action to contest President Donald Trump's executive order aimed at tightening mail-in voting protocols across the country. The lawsuit, filed in a U.S. court on Wednesday, argues that the order unjustifiably encroaches on state governance of elections.
The contentious order was issued on Tuesday and directs the federal administration to leverage national data for voter verification processes. It mandates that absentee ballots be distributed exclusively to individuals listed on state-approved mail-in ballot rosters. The administration is also tasked with compiling state-specific lists of confirmed U.S. citizens eligible to vote.
The White House has yet to reply to requests for comments. However, President Trump has expressed confidence that the order will withstand legal scrutiny, dismissing suggestions that it could be overturned in court.
