The Congress party has criticized the government for convening a 'special session' of Parliament, alleging it aims to pass certain bills for political leverage in upcoming state elections in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal. They claim the move violates the model code of conduct.
Jairam Ramesh, Congress leader, opposed the rushed delimitation exercise, warning of adverse effects on smaller states. He accused the government of attempting to take credit for the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, 2023, without proper communication or planning.
The session is set for April 16 to finalize bills that could modify Lok Sabha seats and amend the women's reservation law. Amid mounting criticism from the opposition, political maneuvering continues as the government pushes forward its legislative agenda.
