The Madras High Court has demanded clarification from the Income Tax Department concerning alleged inconsistencies in the election affidavits filed by Tamil Nadu's Deputy Chief Minister, Udhayanidhi Stalin. The case was highlighted after petitioner R Kumaravel accused Stalin of discrepancy in declared assets for the 2026 and 2021 elections.
Justices S A Dharmadhikari and G Arul Murugan have instructed the Director General of Income Tax (Investigation) along with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs to prepare a status report. The court is set to revisit the case on April 20.
Kumaravel alleged unexplained differences amounting to over Rs 7 crore in Stalin's declared investments. As Tamil Nadu prepares for elections on April 23, the court is examining the veracity of Stalin's financial declarations, urging the Election Commission to scrutinize his disclosures and transactions thoroughly.
