The Election Commission has announced that it will deploy an unprecedented 2,407 companies of central armed police forces for the initial phase of the West Bengal assembly polls scheduled for April 23.
Murshidabad district will see the most significant security presence, involving 316 companies of forces. This decision comes after a spike in violence linked to local protests in recent years, aiming to ensure a fair and secure voting environment.
Additionally, districts such as Purba Medinipur and north Bengal regions will see substantial deployments due to their political significance. The security arrangements underscore the Commission's commitment to conducting free and fair elections, with central forces already in action across many locales.
