In a vehement critique, BJP national spokesperson Tuhin Sinha attacked the DMK leadership on Friday, cautioning that Chief Minister MK Stalin's 'black flag' protest could further alienate Tamil Nadu's citizens. Speaking in Tiruchirappalli, Sinha emphasized that the upcoming Delimitation Exercise is poised to transform Tamil Nadu's political terrain by fostering new leaders and diminishing the hold of political dynasties.
Sinha maintained that the proposed increase in Lok Sabha seats—to a total of 850—threatens entrenched political families. He highlighted an expected 50% increase in parliamentary seats across all states, including Tamil Nadu. Dismissing worries that South Indian states might be at a disadvantage, Sinha cited Union Home Minister Amit Shah's parliamentary assurance of a uniform seat increase nationwide.
'The Delimitation Exercise will deal a heavy blow to dynastic politics, as a 50% increase in seats will bring leaders with non-political backgrounds to the forefront, weakening dynastic control,' claimed Sinha. He advised Tamil Nadu's leadership to 'properly read the bill' rather than accuse the Union Government of withholding funds. Sinha also defended the Centre's financial support to Tamil Nadu, emphasizing that approximately 14 lakh crore has been provided solely for welfare initiatives over the past decade.
Addressing DMK's funding allegations, Sinha highlighted central schemes benefiting Tamil Nadu's coastal communities, urging leaders to critically examine the bill they criticize. Downplaying emerging political figures like Vijay, Sinha declared him 'not a significant player,' and predicted a comfortable win for the NDA in upcoming electoral contests.
Sinha concluded by advising the Chief Minister that contentious actions like black flag protests could backfire as citizens recognize the benefits of central government reforms. Meanwhile, discussions on the Constitution (One Hundred and Thirty-First Amendment) Bill, 2026, and the Delimitation Bill to increase and redraw Lok Sabha constituencies are ongoing in the Lok Sabha.
