Senior BJP leader Smriti Irani on Wednesday advocated for the swift enactment of the 33 percent women's reservation law, while criticizing opposition parties for their "double standards." She reiterated the BJP's dedication to enhancing women's empowerment in West Bengal by promising similar quotas in government jobs.

The law, which allocates one-third of seats for women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies, has yet to be implemented. Its rollout is contingent on completing a new Census and a subsequent delimitation exercise, a major point of contention between the ruling NDA and opposition parties.

Responding to inquiries, Irani highlighted the BJP-led government's track record under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, emphasizing their legislative resolve for women's empowerment. She accused opposition parties of inconsistency, despite their past opportunities to enact these reforms. Focusing on West Bengal, Irani announced that state-level initiatives would include 33 percent reservations for women in government jobs, alongside financial assistance and welfare measures.
