Court Convicts Congressman and 16 Others in High-Profile BJP Leader Murder Case

A special court convicted Congress MLA Vinay Kulkarni and 16 others for the 2016 murder of BJP leader Yogesh Gowda. Two others were acquitted. The case, initially investigated by local police, was transferred to the CBI in 2019. Kulkarni was arrested in 2020 and later released on bail.

In a significant legal development, a special court for MPs and MLAs has convicted Congress MLA Vinay Kulkarni along with 16 others for their involvement in the 2016 murder of BJP leader Yogesh Gowda.

Yogesh Gowda, a prominent BJP member, was brutally killed on June 15, 2016, at his gym in Dharwad. Kulkarni, then a minister, was charged with conspiracy.

The case was initially managed by local law enforcement until it was handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in 2019. Kulkarni, who was arrested in 2020, had previously spent nine months in jail before the Supreme Court granted him bail.
