Urging the Indian government for compassion, Kashmir's prominent religious leader, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, has called for the release of MP Sheikh Abdul Rashid. The plea comes as Rashid's father, Khazir Mohammad Sheikh, battles for his life.
Rashid, who was arrested in 2019 and later elected as an MP from his prison cell, is currently held in Tihar jail on charges related to terror funding under UAPA. Mirwaiz emphasized the humane aspect, as Rashid's father desperately wishes to see his son, possibly for a final meeting.
The former Hurriyat Conference chairman highlighted the broader issue of political prisoners in India, urging humane treatment. While Rashid's electoral victory over political giants like Omar Abdullah was historic, his personal circumstances now call for heartfelt understanding.
