French President Emmanuel Macron expressed approval on Friday of Iran's announcement to reopen the crucial Strait of Hormuz during a ceasefire. Macron commented that the move is a positive development.
During a news conference following a Franco-British-led meeting involving around 40 nations, Macron emphasized that France's close allies stand ready to restore navigation freedom in the strait when possible. "We urge for the immediate, unconditional, and full reopening of the Strait of Hormuz by all parties, advocating for a return to pre-war passage conditions and adherence to maritime law," Macron stated.
Moreover, he opposed any attempts to privatize the strait or establish a toll system, emphasizing the necessity of maintaining open and unrestricted maritime access.
