Kamal Haasan, leader of Makkal Needhi Maiam, has called for immediate implementation of the 33% reservation for women within the existing Lok Sabha seats. Speaking at a campaign event, Haasan emphasized that this move signifies genuine victory for women.
He expressed concerns that the current framework, if not implemented correctly, could lead to a 'political reset' or even a 'conspiracy' designed to dilute regional powers. Haasan's remarks align with the stance taken by ally DMK.
On Friday, a major blow was dealt to the union government when a Constitution Amendment Bill, which proposed executing this change by 2029 and increasing Lok Sabha seats to 816, was defeated. Haasan's comments come in the wake of this legislative setback.
