Voter turnout in Gujarat's local body elections witnessed a range between 30% to 40% by 1.30 pm, as citizens braved the intense summer heat to cast their votes, according to official figures. The turnout at municipal corporations remained lower compared to other local bodies.

The elections, encompassing 15 municipal corporations, 84 municipalities, and multiple district and taluka panchayats, mark one of the largest electoral exercises in Gujarat before the upcoming assembly polls. New guidelines for OBC reservations had led to substantial delimitation and restructuring efforts.

Prominent figures like Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel participated in voting. The process, covering over 4.18 crore eligible voters, is a multi-party affair, set to conclude with vote counting on April 28, after potential re-polling on April 27.
