A deeply tragic incident unfolded during the local body polls in Gujarat's Anand district when a 48-year-old gram panchayat staffer, Amit Solanki, collapsed while on electoral duty. Officials reported on Sunday that Solanki, employed as a peon at Sansej gram panchayat, was carrying out his duties at the polling booth in Petlad taluka when he suddenly lost consciousness.
Efforts to save him were in vain, as he was immediately transported to a government hospital in Tarapur, where medical professionals pronounced him dead on arrival. Authorities have dispatched his body for a thorough post-mortem examination to unveil the precise cause of his untimely demise.
The distressing occurrence drew concern from Sojitra MLA Vipulbhai Patel, who promptly visited the hospital once notified. This tragedy punctuated ongoing elections involving numerous administrative bodies across the state, including municipal corporations and panchayats.
