Atishi, the Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly, has voiced support for Aam Aadmi Party National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal's decision to abstain from further engagement in court proceedings related to the excise policy case. Atishi's backing comes amid claims of compromised impartiality following the dismissal of Kejriwal's recusal plea against Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma.
In a post on X, Atishi expressed concerns over public confidence in the judiciary, aligning Kejriwal’s actions with the principles of Mahatma Gandhi's satyagraha. She emphasized that the move is not solely about Kejriwal but reflects a broader public sentiment of vanishing hope for justice when bias is perceived in the judiciary.
The Delhi High Court recently rejected Kejriwal’s plea for Justice Sharma’s recusal, stating that his allegations lacked evidence of bias or conflict of interest. The court noted that Justice Sharma's family members' professional affiliations with the central government do not warrant recusal. With Kejriwal opting out, the court will proceed with the excise case under legal protocols.
